A Daunting Task..

Hey guys, I need your help!

The saxes decided to have a get together in a week or two. We're just gonna hang out, maybe play some games, and have dinner. I said I would make them a deeelicious (vegan) meal. :-P

What should I make?! They said they don't want something that they'd normally eat and just happens to be vegan, like pasta or something. There are 18 in the section but I'm guessing everyone won't make it.. I'm probably looking to cook for about 12. Any ideas?

What about seitan? It's inexpensive (which makes it great when cooking for 12 people). You could make chunks of it and then put them on skewers. You could have a couple of different flavors (although I don't recommend mixing flavors on one skewer) such as bbq, sesame orange, teriyaki, jerk, etc. If you do the seitan, you could easily make it the night before to help with prep time. Another great vegan meal is spicy lenties (again, inexpensive). Check out my blog for the recipe (which I adapted from a recipe from Leslie at Eat Peace Please, which she got from Vegan Lunch Box, I think). You could make a quadruple batch of it (the recipe serves 4 as a big main dish) and serve it with crusty sourdough and a creative salad.

Good luck. I can't wait to read about what you choose and how everything turns out for you.

What about wraps? Mini ones?!

I like Crystal's idea of the lenties. You could make a huge-ass batch of soup or stew and serve that one the side of some others.

For sure go for cookies!

I'm with Leslie, I think the saoup and a great loaf of bread (fresh from a good bakery) would be awesome. Of course cookies for dessert. I just made some stovetop no bake cookies (chocolately and oatmeal). I hope to share them on my blog soon.

I think the suggestions made are great....but just to give you some options...I suggest make your own burritos. All you have to do is chop up a whole bunch of veggies..ie tomatoes, onions, lettuce, avocado etc. Then have a big bowl of seasoned black beans (ie with cumin, chili powder, and maybe some corn)... then have some chipolte sauce or salsa or whatever, and finally some wraps. Everyone puts whatever they like on it...and everyone is happy! Then a big bowl of salad or better yet...YAM FRIES for the side dish.

Good luck...I hope to hear how it goes.

Hey guys, thanks for all the ideas! I'm really hoping to use some seitan or tofu, something my friends would consider "weird," just so they all get a chance to try something new.

Hmm maybe I could combine a few ideas and have like.. a make-your-own seitan burrito thing or something.

As for dessert, I want to try and make something fancier! Since I won't have to tote it to practice. Hmm...
